To hell with what NOT to wear! Here’s what KNOT to wear!
You know those shows on tv that tell you what NOT to wear? Well, this is not that.
What I'm about to share with you is just ONE of the many how-to-get-scrappy-and-make-the-most-of-your-closet Style School tips, transforming your too big, too long, too boxy, not-quite-right clothes into something FAB!
Choosing WHAT KNOT TO WEAR is a ninja style move that you're going to want to try immediately.
I'm not kidding when I say a simple KNOT can turn something you just don't love into pure knot-tastic magic! Not only that, adding knots can be such a fun way to mix and match different pieces of your wardrobe together to create dozens of new closet combos.
There are a number of style “moves” you can use to make the clothes in your closet fit you better (like the Rosie Rosette), and this is just another move to put in your style-moves tool box.
You can put-a-knot in just about anything... a shirt, a sweater, a tee, a dress, heck, even a pair of pants!
Let's BREAK IT ON DOWN, shall we?
KNOTTED TEE WITH JEANS
See how Style Sister, Sarah (SSS17 Maya Squad), knotted her tee, visually lengthening her legs by around 6 inches, and increasing her swagger to OFF THE CHARTS! This simple move says HERE I AM like whoa, doesn't it?
KNOTTED BLOUSE WITH JEANS
Look how Style Sister, Carina (SSS17 Maya Squad), took this too-long-shirt and turned it into PURE KNOT-TASTIC MAGIC on her gorgeous body, simply by tying a knot right there at her belly button! What a difference, right?
KNOTTED BUTTON-UP BLOUSE WITH JEANS
And here's Style Sister, Jane (SSS17 Maya Squad), stepping into her BRAVE simply by tying the tiny-tip-ends of her button-up shirt together! I know you know what I'm talking about when I say, "stepping into her BRAVE". We've been conditioned into wearing our shirts long to cover us up, because that makes us feel protected, hidden, safe. This move requires bravery because you're saying - NO HIDING HERE!
KNOTTED BUTTON-DOWN SHIRT OVER ANOTHER SHIRT
Here I am with a knotted button-up shirt OVER a sequined tank top, which took my fancy sequins and made them all kinds of casual.
KNOTTED CARDIGAN OVER A DRESS
Here I am with my super-gal-pal, Amy (SSS Facilitator - Amelia Squad), wearing a knotted cardi right on top of my sleeveless fit and flair dress. Her too! It's such an easy way to transition a summer dress to fall, using things you already have in your closet.
KNOTTED PANTS
I gotta tell you... this one blew me right outta the water. Here's Zoha (SSS17 Frida Squad Facilitator), knotting up a pair of too-long swooshy pants, and turning them into super-stylish harem pants without having to take them to a tailor!
Not to mention the knotted tee!! Hella SEXYYYYY!
KNOTTED TEE OVER A DRESS
Here's the last move I want to show you. See how I've layered a regular old t-shirt right on top of a dress, and knotted it so it hit me at just the right spot? I don't have a whole lotta clothes, so the more I can mix-and-match the pieces I have, the less stale my closet feels.
And now, I've got a challenge for you!!
How about when you get dressed tomorrow... you figure out a way to utilize one of these knots? You've got 7 knots to choose from here, and I just know that at least one of 'em will work for you.
Q. How do I know which knot to try?
A. Get curious. Have a little fun. Flex your brave muscle. Experiment. Play. Try them all.
Q. How do I know if the knot "works"?
A. My advice... let go of "perfection" for a minute and trust yourself. If it FEELS good, then it's good. There’s no such thing as a wrong knot.
Q. No but seriously, I know it's only a knot, but it feels risky. What if I do it wrong?
A. My Q for you is... who gets to decide what's right or wrong for YOUR BODY? Are you giving that authority away to someone else? Because if you are, it's time to take it on back, sister. When it comes to figuring out "your style", only YOU get to decide that. And you get to decide that based on how you FEEL. If you walk out the door feeling hella proud of yourself for stepping outside your comfort zone and trying something new - well then by golly, nobody can take that away from you. Unless you let them.
Maybe you knot your shirt and realize at the end of the day that it's not really your jam. GREAT! Don't do it again. It doesn't mean you were foolish for trying. It means you were brave enough to try.
That's the gal I wanna hang out with. The gal who was brave enough to try.
Who's gonna give a KNOT a try tomorrow??? 🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️
Of course you raised your hand!
And I just know you're gonna do it with the heart of an explorer, knowing that no matter which way you turn, you'll discover something new!
